The artist has donated the complete sum of his £25k honor winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the UK's independent concert spaces.

He was presented with the prize on October 16 as his latest record his work was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

The musician has chosen to hand the money over to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the crucial part local spots had in his beginning days.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I did around the region, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – approximately 16% of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, top acts including Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by including a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, generating over £100k on his live tour to support 38 local spots across Britain.

The money helped venues that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from water damage, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, court cases and sound issues.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in improving facilities and technical equipment that directly benefitted performers and audiences.

"The notion that funds from concerts in large arenas helps the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

Fender is not the first artist to contribute his honor funds to good deeds.

When Pulp received the prize in the mid-90s for their record Different Class, frontman the singer stated that the group would give their winnings to the organization War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer the artist shared her bounty among multiple charities, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also contributed a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked updated gear," the artist told outlets.

Previously, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the community center that nurtured their group, as well as other independent music bodies.

Also 1994 winners they donated their prize to a MS organization after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"Winning was sufficient," said artist Small. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our victory affected the lives of others."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had rescued several grassroots venues in south-east England, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in the city and The Croft in the city were acquired under the public acquisition program, which is funded by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who purchase "ownership units" in the venues.
